Please meet the Fantasy Football 1 on 1 staff
TIM WUTZ – OUR START/SIT ADVICE WIZARD @TIMWUTZ
I am a 57 year old married grandfather that started playing fantasy football reluctantly. I was asked by a friend to fill in for a guy that dropped out, and I agreed, but only if it was for the one year. I am one that if I agree to do something, I want to do it well and compete. I had a lot to learn, as I had never played any type of fantasy sport before. I dug in, and began to find it fascinating, and was always looking for more knowledge. Soon I was locked up in my man cave every available hour listening to podcasts, reading blogs etc, trying to gain more knowledge. I had always considered myself a football fan, but didn’t realize until this, how much knowledge about the inner workings of the game I didn’t know. Then one night, I listened to a podcast by THE FANTASY TYPHOON, and had an opinion I wanted to share, so I e-mailed him. To my great surprise, he answered it, and we began a dialogue, and the rest, as they say is history. He urged me to join twitter (I didn’t even know what twitter was at the time), and I began watching discussions, then joining in some great conversations with fantastic fantasy football minds. This led me to dynasty leagues, which I now play almost exclusively. The learning curve again started, as I had to value player’s long term. This led to even more hours of research and reading. My wife, half-jokingly, calls herself a “fake football” widow. To this day, the more I learn, the more I realize I have to learn. I just recently moved out to a very rural area, and no longer have unlimited data for internet, so I have to be more creative in my research. I hope to have this fixed by next football season, so the pods I watch now have to be limited.
RAY CHUNG – OUR EDITOR AND CHIEF @CHUNGKNOWS
Ray first started playing fantasy football when he was an undergraduate at Case Western Reserve University. He was ecstatic when he was paired with a roommate who was a starting wideout for the football team. The two watched NFL and NCAA games together, and played Texas Hold’em while witnessing Chris Moneymaker take the world by storm in 2003. With an amateur spirit and a deep interest in player psychology and game theory, Ray enjoys the mental side of reading the players he’s drafting with as much as drafting his own team. This summer, Ray met No Thinking in a Scout satellite league and the guru pointed him to the visual side of the game, which led him to THE FANTASY TYPHOON. After watching The White Board and listening to Fantasy Football 1 on 1, Ray is starting to pick up the skills to form his own opinions on players instead of relying on the plethora of fantasy analysts out there. While keeping a humble respect for the opinions of high stakes players and fantasy football writers, Ray is learning that the most important voice you can listen to and trust is his own.
Ray is starting to work for Fantasy Football 1 on 1 and THE FANTASY TYPHOON by providing editing assistance. His writing was first published by Heckler magazine at the age of 13. He is a freelance writer, editor, and translator and his clients include the Hong Kong Jockey Club. He was Senior Editor of the Jockey Racing Journal. His poetry has been published in journals and anthologies. Ray enjoys supporting the Seattle Seahawks, as well as his second alma mater, the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.
